SW does have added cost (it's expensive) and i've noticed a lot of people recommending the free 3D modeling programs like Fusion. it's so versatile that when people look at my SW layout it doesn't look like the SW they are familiar with. you can put the same tool on multiple toolbars if you want. you can add any tool to any toolbar and hide/show any toolbar very easily. a little more free advertising for SW: not only can you assign custom keyboard shortcuts, but you can assign custom mouse gestures, custom mini-pop up toolbars ("s" being the default button), and you can even customize the toolbars themselves. In solidworks i have custom keyboard shortcuts for all my most used commands. you needed to learn the commands, but once you learned them you could access many commands at a fingertip. I will say that when i used autoCAD i was a personal fan of the command line. For someone who wanted to use as a CAD input device, the current models I'd look at are this one or this one. They have a lot of different sizes & form factors, not all of them have touch screen. The MIMO's are pretty nice, in that you get more screen space without using a video-out port, it's just USB.

(Didn't bother installing the touchscreen drivers on my last PC, but I did continue using it as display until just recently.) Then I switched again to Pro-E/Creo, which didn't rely on so many toolbars, so the side-screen got relegated mostly to chat window and time-keeping software. That worked great, but soon thereafter I got a SolidWorks job, and replicating the effect became very frustrating, as it wouldn't remember the toolbar placements, and I had to drag a dozen of them over to the touchscreen at the start of every session. When I began my career with a CATIA V4 system, every station had an LPFK I still have one put away in a drawer somewhere.Ī decade ago I got one of MIMO's little USB touchscreens ( here's their current product line), to move all my CATIA V5 toolbars onto. Google Drive shared folder with profiles, icons and CAD shortcuts You can copy and paste them into a new keyboard shortcut within CUI and assign your own hotkey to them. Within CUI in CAD you'll need to enter your text string and assign the same keyboard shortcut you did so it matches Stream Deck.įeel free to look at the Word file uploaded to my Google Drive for all of the shortcuts I use. I have a specific rotate object 90 degrees command so I don't need to type rotate, click it's rotation point, enter the amount of rotation, etc. The only real "programming" you'll need is within CAD itself to make your shortcuts. Any custom icons you want to make is just extra eye candy.

Within your CAD profile you would drag a new hotkey from the side bar onto your profile, enter your hotkey as shown here. Within Stream Deck I use mostly hotkeys control both opening programs and triggering CAD commands. I use a rather small portion of the functions of the Stream Deck many are for streaming. There is little to no programming needed outside of CAD creating your shortcuts.
